Message From Zengakuren (All Japan Federation of Student’s Autonomous Bodies)

I send you our solidarity message on behalf of Japanese students movement.
This month, more and more students in the UK and the rest of the world are rising up. Also in Japan, we, Zengakuren, are organizing students’ action.
British students are charged of “violent disorder.” Japanese students are about to be suspended and expelled from Hosei University in Tokyo only for their anti-war speech using a loudspeaker even during breaks between classes on the grounds of their “noise emission that obstructs the preparation of classes.” But the hope and justice embodied by student movements in both countries cannot be destroyed.
The capitalist governments are cutting education budgets under the guise of global economic crisis and fiscal deficits. However we, students, must not be blamed for the deficits made by the capitalists who profiteered from the bubble economy and spent huge amount of military budgets for slaughter of workers and students around the world. They turn education into money making. They are depriving us of education and of our own future and thus killing their own future. The capitalists shall end up on the trash heap of history.
Zengakuren in Japan is preparing an anti-war action in December in solidarity with students in all over the world. A new war is beginning in Korean Peninsula involving the United States, Japan, China and the whole world. Anger simmering in Okinawa, the islands of military bases, is about to erupt and blow out all the system under Japan-US Security Alliance and US military bases. Students in mainland Japan must strengthen unity with workers and students in Okinawa, stop Japanese imperialism from participating in the war and to smash Japan-US Security Alliance and overthrow Japanese imperialism. The greatest power to stop the war is the international solidarity of workers and students of the world.
The education budget cut means more military research and development. Fee hikes and increasing student loans have been sending more and more students to battlefields. We are the masters of the history, not “unsold labor-force commodities.” We can make our own future. Our anti-war struggle shall show it. Zengakuren will fight together with workers and students of the world until our final victory.
